Purchasing the ideal outdoor TV aerial for your home can be a daunting task and there are many factors that contribute to getting the decision right. In many cases, using a larger aerial will be more beneficial, so if you live a long way from a transmitter it may be a good idea to focus on this type of aerial. However, you should not forget that the final outcome is closely related to the model of the aerial too. So, how exactly do you select the right outdoor aerial for your property?

shutterstock_92796472

To start with, the most convenient and efficient method of finding the right size of aerial is to walk around your neighbourhood and check the aerials of your neighbours. In addition, you should pay attention to the direction. If the vast majority of aerials are focused in one direction, then your area probably has a good signal. If they are facing in many different directions, it is most likely that your area has certain problems with reception which will potentially require the use of a signal amplifier too. The situation will become worse if you are planning to use more than one TV in your home. In cases like this, it is a good idea to buy a masthead amplifier as well.

When choosing an aerial most people opt for UHF signal aerials as these are commonly known for supporting digital and HD channels. However, VHF signal aerials can also support digital, so make sure the aerial you want matches the channels you want – otherwise you could end up paying more for an aerial that does the job just as good (if not better) than a cheaper version.

Don’t forget that the installation process of outdoor aerials is more complicated compared to indoor aerials. In many cases, it is necessary to hire a professional to finish the job. The final decision whether you should use an indoor or outdoor aerial will be determined on your home’s location and proximity to the nearest transmitter.

If you belong to the (slightly) older generation, you probably remember the times when people talked about the premiere of some TV show’s episode with their colleagues the day after the show was shown on TV. You would speculate what would happen next and couldn’t wait for the following week to watch the next episode. There were no trailers, no spoilers and no exclusive information about the way the season will end even before it begins.

Well, times are changing. We now live in a world of online streaming services that have revolutionized the way we watch movies and TV shows. There are many platforms that provide services like this – BBC iPlayer, Channel 4 On Demand, Amazon Prime, Netflix etc and there number is growing every year.

In the past there were limited channels and only a few shows to watch and we had to wait for days before we could see the next one. Now, people spend entire weekends on movie/TV show marathons. This convenient way of watching TV has increased the amount of time we spend in front of TV (or computer). According to some surveys 8 out of 10 people in the United Kingdom are aware that they are watching TV more than recommended. Most of us seem to be addicted to this practice especially when it comes to TV series because we always want to find out what will happen next.

This phenomenon is resulting in other changes too. Since we are watching more TV content, the desire for even more content has escalated. The TV industry is booming at the moment and the sheer volume of new content that is available is staggering. Furthermore, programmes are now being made in a different way and the industry is focused on creating more “addictive” content and, generally speaking, people who watch a lot of TV are no longer viewed as couch potatoes…it’s simply become the norm and socially acceptable.

It is hard to predict how watching TV will change in the future, but one thing is for sure – movies and TV series have entered a new Golden Age!

Home automation is revolutionising how the modern home operates. Smart interior lighting management, window shades with a motorized mechanism and many other innovative solutions make the lives of people who live in these homes much easier. There are many people who are well-aware of the usefulness of home automation, but they are not considering this option because they think that these solutions are quite expensive.

However, many home owners and experts have confirmed that including some of these solutions in your home promises great return of investment. Besides saving time and improving quality of life, home automation also cuts energy consumption which ultimately means lower energy costs.

Automated lighting management reduces the amount of power you use

Let’s be honest, many people forget to turn off the light in rooms they are not using, even when they go to bed or before they leave their home. If you have lighting control you don’t need to walk in to each room to check whether the light is off or on. All you need to do is to press one button and every light in the home will be turned off (or on if you want to). The best part is that you can use specific program setting that will manage the lighting automatically. In addition, you can also rely on your mobile device and turn the lights off and on regardless of your location.

Motorized window shades save power

Heating and cooling costs will be radically reduced if you use motorized window shades. It is very difficult to follow the sun and adjust the shades depending on its position. With automatic motorized shades you can set a program or adjust them from your mobile devices without the need to stand up and visit each room in your home.

In addition, home automation can spare you from phantom energy use, help you synch energy management systems for personal observation and provide automated climate management.

There are several ways that home automation can be used to save you money so to find out more, contact Aerial Services now.

What is the status of your Digital TV signal? Do you enjoy a great viewing experience or are you still experiencing problems?

Many experts agree that the switch to digital television was not as smooth as it could have been and that this transition caused quite a few problems in the UK. If you are still experiencing Freeview digital signal problems then check out the following:

– Have you visited the official Digital UK website to find out whether there is some engineering work that is going on in your area?

– Have you checked whether the aerial cable is connected well to the aerial socket and the TV?

– If you are using an aerial plug that’s not sealed, is the connection attached well to the coaxial cable?

– Do you have a cable that is way too long?

– Have you tried the automatic search function?

If you have checked all these things and the signal is still bad, you should take action. First of all, you can purchase a mains-powered signal enhancer. They look similar to the box where you attach the aerial cable plug. This may help and could be worth a try.

If you don’t have any signal at all then these enhancers won’t help. Another thing that you can try is to remove all the electronic devices around your TV. You can also use a signal attenuator. If these tips don’t work, the next step is to visit the loft and check the aerial. The aerial must be aligned in a proper way so try adjusting the position to see if this helps.

If you’ve tried everything and you have not noticed any changes, then it’s time to call an expert aerial engineer.

At Aerial Services we would be happy to check out your signal problems so contact us now to arrange an appointment.

No matter what kind of equipment or device you are installing in your home or office, you should always look for a professional installation company. The situation is no different when it comes to aerial installation companies. If you want everything to go smoothly, you will need to acquire the help of a qualified, licensed, skilled and experienced company.

aerials

However, we live in an age where many people are trying to make a fast profit by providing low-quality services or by scamming people. These so-called cowboy installers have developed schemes to trick or attract potential customers. They often offer completely unnecessary upgrades or ask for extremely high fees. Since many of them have mastered these con tricks, it can be very hard, especially for inexperienced users, to recognize such scams and unprofessional services.

That’s why we have decided to point out some things that can help you spot a cowboy aerial installer.

To start with, if someone calls you on the phone offering such service, you should ask them about their ID and registration. This ID number will show whether they are registered or not. In order to be part of this business you must be approved and checked for insurance and qualifications.

Furthermore, even if they tell you their number, but don’t show their identification when they actually come to your place, you should be very careful with these contractors. It would be wise to ask them to show their ID before signing a contract.

Another way to recognize a reliable aerial installer is to find one with a digital tick logo. If there are no installers like this in your area, look for one that is a member of trade bodies such as IDSC and CAI.

In the absence of a firm recommendation, it is usually best to make a list of at least three qualified installers before making your final decision. And before they begin the job, make sure that the price is set, that there are no hidden fees and that they have provided a time frame for completion.

Virgin and Sky are high-quality competitors in the telecommunication industry. Both companies offer some great choices, which make the decision about which one to pick that much harder. It all depends on what exactly you are looking for, and what kind of services you need. Here are some facts about both operators which may help you choose.

Virgin is an excellent provider for a variety of services. They offer TV, home phone, broadband internet, and mobile services. Of course, you do not have to pick all of them, and you are at liberty to choose whichever service you like. However, many people like the ease of buying everything in one package. Their broadband services are probably the best as they use fibre optic lines for fast internet. One negative thing is their limited availability in comparison to Sky.

Unlike Virgin, Sky offers three services – the internet, home phone and TV. Just like Virgin, you can take them all in a package or choose the ones you want. Sky has lots of TV channels, in fact, more than any other operator in the UK. Their broadband internet service is widely spread and more available than Virgin.

By choosing Virgin, you will get lots of benefits. They have the fastest speeds of broadband connection, up to 200 Mbps. Also, a good thing is that you do not have to have a home phone line in order to use broadband internet from Virgin. Virgin`s TV service does not offer that many channels as Sky, but they are a cheaper TV option. Also, their customer service is pretty good, which keeps the customers satisfied.

By choosing Sky, you would get the best possible TV service available in the UK. If you are a TV buff, you will enjoy the wide range of high definition and standard definition TV channels on offer. However, Sky`s internet speeds are lower than Virgin`s, but they are available to more homes in the UK than their competitors.

So, it’s swings and roundabouts for whatever service you’re looking for. If you would like more in-depth advice about Virgin and Sky please contact us now,

Sky Receivers are known for their quality and ability to provide hundreds of excellent TV channels in our homes. In order to enjoy all the benefits of Sky Receivers users must connect their receiver to a satellite dish and TV. The good news is that this process is very simple. You can finish this task in two ways – by using a scart lead or by using an aerial lead.

sky

Scart Lead Connection

For many experts, this is the simplest option because you don’t have to tune anything. The only downside is that some older TV models don’t come with a scart input. You can find the scart sockets on the back of the satellite receiver. The one with the TV mark should be connected to the TV. In addition, there is a power lead input and input from the satellite dish. Simply connect all the cables to the satellite receiver. If everything is all right, you should be able to watch all the channels. If you receive an error message this means that your satellite dish is not aligned in the right way. Once you align it, you will be able to watch the channels.

Aerial Lead Connection

In case you own a TV without a scart input, you will need to use aerial input. This aerial input is placed right next to the scart lead. The rest of the procedure is the same – connect the cables in the suitable places. The next step is to tune the TV to the Sky box just like you would with normal TV. Finally, if you don’t receive the satellite signal (you will notice a message) you will have to align the satellite dish.

The entire procedure should last between 15 and 30 minutes depending on the method you are using.

If you have any problems with Sky receiver tuning and you need further advice, please get in touch.

The right TV aerial depends on a few factors, such as where you live and how far away the nearest transmitter is. Installing a TV aerial can be tricky, so before you go ahead and make a purchase, make sure you know you’re getting the right one.

outdoor_aerials

Read our 3 tips to help you choose the right outdoor TV aerial for your home.

1. Signal Gain

A good indication of how good your reception will be with an aerial is by checking out the positions of your neighbour’s aerials– if there are several pointing in different directions, then you may need to also purchase a signal amplifier, as this indicates your area’s signal is generally poorer than average.

2. The Type of Signal

Most people opt for UHF signal aerials as these are commonly known for supporting digital and HD channels. However, VHF signal aerials can also support digital, so make sure the aerial you want matches the channels you want – otherwise you could end up paying more for an aerial that does the job just as good (if not better) than a cheaper version.

3. Outdoor or Indoor?

Outdoor aerials will give you a better signal consistently, but installing them will require an expert. Some homes aren’t able to install outdoor aerials (such as apartments), but indoor aerials can work just as well once you have it placed in the perfect position. Indoor aerials are also significantly cheaper than outdoor versions which make them a preferable product for some.

Never try to install an outdoor aerial yourself – call the professionals who will install your aerial and provide you all the help you need to get a great signal for the channels you want to watch.

Digital TV has been a major leap forward in quality and clarity since the old analogue days but if your signal isn’t up to scratch then it can still lead to poor picture and sound quality, with your audio and video cutting in and out, causing you lots of frustration.

foreign-satellite

If you’re suffering from a poor digital TV signal then you need to find a way of boosting the incoming signal to improve matters. Here are a few tips on how to do this:

If you’re using an indoor aerial, move it to a different height or location. You’ll be surprised how just a small movement can make a big difference. This can be quite painstaking and there’s a lot of trial and error involved. It’s best to move it slightly then be patient and wait a few minutes to see if the reception improves. Hopefully, after a bit of manoeuvring, you will find the best spot for it.

If you’re using an outdoor aerial then try to re-aim it. Usually outdoor aerials will receive better signals than indoor ones. Once again, you have to be patient and keep watching the signal strength meter on the digital to analogue converter box or TV as you move the aerial into different positions. You want to get the highest reading you possibly can and this, in turn, will boost your digital TV signal.

Another option is to purchase a signal amplifier or booster and install this between the aerial and receiver to see if this increases the signal strength.

Trying to get the best digital TV signal possible can be a frustrating process not to mention dangerous, especially if you’re working at height. In the event of a problem we would always recommend calling in a professional aerial services company that have the training, experience and insurance to deal with these matters. The job will be done quicker and safer. For any advice about digital TV aerials and how you can improve reception, please contact us now.
